Milestone Breakdown & Time Frame

Milestone 1: Orientation & Camera Basics (1 Hour – Week 1)

Students begin by setting goals and learning camera setup, operation, and safety. They take sample photos to establish a baseline and become familiar with exposure and focus. This milestone introduces key photography terms and foundational techniques.

Milestone 2: Composition & Storytelling (3 Hours – Weeks 2–3)

Students learn the rule of thirds, framing, balance, and depth. Through guided photo challenges, they explore how to use perspective and angles to communicate emotion and story. By the end, they submit a small image set demonstrating compositional control.

Milestone 3: Lighting & Shooting Techniques (3 Hours – Weeks 4–5)

This milestone focuses on natural and artificial lighting. Students learn to observe direction, quality, and color of light to improve image quality. They complete a mini photo project emphasizing subject, light, and atmosphere.

Milestone 4: Editing & Post-Processing (3 Hours – Weeks 6–7)

Students move into photo editing using Adobe Lightroom or Canva. They learn color correction, cropping, and tone adjustments while maintaining natural image quality. This phase helps students refine their storytelling visually through post-production.

Milestone 5: Creative Series & Branding (2 Hours – Weeks 8–9)

Students apply all previous skills to create a themed photo series. They design captions, graphics, or a personal watermark to add identity and presentation value to their work. This milestone connects photography to creative entrepreneurship and branding.

Milestone 6: Final Portfolio & Showcase (2 Hours – Weeks 10–12)

In the final stage, students select their best work, write short artist statements, and present a visual portfolio digitally or in print. This phase marks the completion of the course and serves as the final billing milestone for Step Up or self-pay families.

Parents are encouraged to approve invoices promptly to ensure the student’s lessons remain active and progress reports are delivered on time.
